Megan Michelson, a co-founder and manager of the Mill, is a freelance writer. She worked as the freeskiing editor for ESPN.com, and before that, as an editor at Skiing Magazine and Outside Magazine. Her work has appeared in publications including the New York Times, Powder, Men's Journal, Outside, Backpacker, and more.
Dan Abrams, Flylow Gear
Dan Abrams, one of the co-founders of Tahoe Mill, is the president and co-founder of Flylow Gear, an independent manufacturer of backcountry freeride ski outerwear, now sold in stores around the globe. Abrams started the company in 2005 in his mom's basement in Denver and moved to Tahoe in 2012.
Greg Steen, Flylow Gear
Greg Steen, one of the co-founders of Tahoe Mill, is the co-founder of Flylow Gear, the ski outerwear brand based in both Denver and Tahoe. He's now the company's lead designer, product developer, web guru, and resident telemark skier. He lives in an A-frame in Truckee.
Brit White, Flylow Gear
Brit White grew up in Truckee and now works as an outerwear designer for Flylow Gear and TahoeMade Attire. She always thought she wanted to be an English teacher until she discovered freestyle skiing. "Once I started competing in halfpipe and slopestyle I realized what I wanted to do with my life—I wanted to design ski outerwear," she says. She went to fashion school in Orange County, then moved back to the mountains to compete in skiing and find her dream job. Mission accomplished.
Ben Kimple, Gus Banuski, Tahoe Brew Tours
Tahoe Brew Tours was established in 2016 by Ben Kimple and Gus Banuski, transplants to the Lake Tahoe region from upstate New York. The brewery tour company was founded on a foundation of degrees in Recreation Management and Tourism studies, coupled with over a decade of experience in outdoor guiding. Acting as owner/operators, Ben and Gus double as designated drivers and local guides during brewery tours; educating guests on the brewing process and history of beer, as well as the rich natural and human history of the Lake Tahoe.
Isaac Silverman, Sierra Watch
Isaac Silverman is an environmental attorney and organizer with deep roots in the Sierra Nevada from growing up in the Placer County foothills. He joined Sierra Watch as their staff attorney in 2014. He previously worked as legal clerk for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Natural Resources Defense Fund, as a consultant to the climate and air program at Environmental Defense Fund, and as an advocate and organizer at Environment America.
Jenn Sheridan, Coalition Snow
Jenn Sheridan is the chief operation officer at Coalition Snow, a company designing skis and snowboards for women, by women. By day Jenn is the associate editor at The Tahoe Weekly and Tahoe Powder magazine. She has written for Skiing magazine, Teton Gravity Research, and Powder.
Lauren Bello, Designer
Lauren Bello is an architect, illustrator, graphic designer, and general maker of things. Formerly specializing in retail and commercial architecture, she recently started Folklaur, an interdisciplinary design studio, where she is currently working on graphics for a 2015 ski line, a bike rack fabrication, and a new house project in Truckee.
Brad Flora, a graduate of Sierra Nevada College in Incline, moved to Seattle after graduating to build a remote-based business so he could have the freedom to live and work from anywhere. Where did he choose to live? Tahoe. He moved back in 2017 and runs his own e-commerce business. When he's not working, he spends his time playing in the mountains and on the lake with friends.
Adam Keen, Graduate Student
Adam Keen is a graduate student at the University of Southern California. He studies oceanographic storm events, tsunamis and their impacts on California harbors. Passionate about the mountains and skiing, Adam moved to North Lake Tahoe in 2015 to live the ski bum lifestyle. He skis more during the winter than he’d care to state publicly and can be found most weekends teaching adaptive skiing with Achieve Tahoe.
Andrew Hutton, Digital Marketing Consultant
Andrew Hutton is a digital marketing consultant, working with a handful of startups and businesses across the U.S. Previously he worked as a manager at an agency in the Bay Area but left in early 2016 to pursue his dream of being able to work remotely from anywhere in the world. Andrew originally hails from New Zealand, and enjoys snowboarding, surfing and coffee.
Jessica Stanley, Civil Engineer
Jessica Stanley is a civil engineer at Sherwood Design Engineers. She is passionate about ecological design, landscape-based stormwater management and water reuse. Making her way to Tahoe from San Francisco, she’s excited to explore opportunities to implement sustainable land design solutions locally. Jessica is also the co-founder of a Tahoe-based wine company called Illanta Wines.
Chase Schweitzer, Sierra Watch
Chase Schweitzer is field representative for Sierra Watch, a conservation advocacy group focused on development threats to the Sierra Nevada. As a community organizer, he is focused on preserving the environment and heritage of the greater Sierra Nevada range, including Squaw Valley, where he grew up skiing and snowboarding. A recent graduate of UC Berkeley, he draws from experience in communications and journalism, as well as organizing volunteers for meaningful service projects.
Sarah Hoyle, Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation
Sarah Hoyle works to protect pollinators and other invertebrates by reducing pesticide use in agricultural and urban settings. Her interest in sustainable agriculture and the wonky world of pesticide policy stemmed from her background in ecology and love of playing outside. She's happy to be exploring the area with her husband and pup and is helping to expand Tahoe's access to local food as a board member of the Tahoe Food Hub.
Jackie Stoesser, HayterComm
A Tahoe/Truckee native, Jackie has spent the past half-decade creating major hype for some of the outdoor industry’s most revered brands. Jackie currently exercises her PR prowess as the media relations manager and event coordinator for HayterComm clients The Coleman Company, Inc., uvex sports [ski & cycling], Superfeet insoles, URAL sidecar motorcycles, and more.
Kenneth Bossung, Business Strategy
Kenneth Bossung is the CEO and founder of Bossung, Inc., an international organization focused on business strategy and sales for start-ups and early stage companies. Ken has over 30 years of sales and business experience and has been the founder of multiple successful technology start-ups. He lives with his wife in Squaw Valley. When not working with his clients around the globe, he can be found on the slopes of Squaw, skiing the Tahoe backcountry or on his mountain bike.
Kirstin Guinn, Marketing Director
Kirstin Guinn is the Director of Marketing for Destination Residences Snowmass in Colorado. A firm believer in learning from every opportunity, Kirstin learned from experience that she actually doesn’t want to run her own company, and so is happy to have landed back with Destination Hotels, the country’s largest operator of independent, boutique hotels. She has been in Tahoe since 2001 but is seeing it with fresh eyes now that her son Miles has become her most trusted adventure buddy.
Brett Smith, Architect
Brett Smith is the Tahoe pioneer for DeForest Architects. DA+ is known for modern design that plays well with others. Brett joined DA+ while pursuing his Masters in Architecture at the University of Washington. He spent 4 years in the Seattle studio before returning to his native California. Brett and his wife, daughter, and dog take every opportunity to explore the mountains around their Tahoe home by ski, bike, boat, and boot.
